Our friends had a beautiful property in Uruguay.  There were rolling hills and two creeks running through different hectares (a little different than acres).  However, there was always a problem crossing one of the creeks to reach a road on the other side of the property. 
     So what did they do?  They built a bridge, of course.  Why?  Mostly for fun, but there was a practical side to the adventure.   We're not talking about a short 8 meter bridge - we're talking about a loooong and fancy bridge.
   When the bridge-building was complete, they hosted a huge inauguration of it.  These folks never did anything half-way:  there was a band, caterers, a parade of gauchos going across the bridge, and a sign to name the bridge!
     I'm not certain how the name came to be, but I suspect it was inspired by the  the building long and arduous task of building a bridge on foreign soil.  There was an old movie, in 1957, that told the story of a bridge-building during WWII - The Bridge Over the River Kwai.  And so, their bridge among the hills in Uruguay was christened as "The Bridge Over the River Why".
