1/2 cup vanilla pudding (make ahead of time or use pre-made pudding cups)
2 tbsp pumpkin pie filling or fresh baked pumpkin mixed with a little sugar and cinnamon
1 & 1/2 tbsp crushed graham crackers or vanilla wafers
larger cup for mixing
- Compare different sizes of measuring spoons and measuring cups.
- Have 2 real pumpkins available to look while you are making the "pies." Leave one whole and cut the other in half ahead of time, propping the two halves together so you can open them later.
- Ask children to tell what they already know about pumpkins and how they think the pumpkin will look and feel when it is cut open. Open the pumpkin halves and let children feel, taste, explore. Younger children can count pumpkin seeds and plant them afterwards in cups or the garden! (This can get messy - you might want to do this outside.)
- With the whole pumpkin, have children weigh it, measure it, draw on it, and name it!
